How far in advance should I make a reservation?

We are a small facility and book up very quickly! We recommend making reservations as soon as you know your plans. Holiday reservations require a two-night deposit to hold the reservation, which is refundable as long as the reservation is cancelled at least 14 days prior to the check-in date.

What happens if my dog becomes sick or gets hurt while at Southpaw?

We will call you and ask you how you would like us to proceed. If you have a local veterinarian, we are happy to take him there. If you are from out of town, we will make the appropriate decision as to which available local vet to take your dog to for appropriate care.

May I visit my dog or take him out for the day while they are boarding?

Yes! You may visit anytime during our regular office hours. Many visitors enjoy taking their dog to the beach next door to us and taking him out to explore the island.

Can my dog daycare or board if he/she is unaltered?

We do allow dogs to stay with us that are not neutered or spayed. We take proper precautions when deciding who their playmates will be, as not all dogs get along with un-neutered males. However, we cannot daycare or board a female who is in heat. If your dog goes into heat during her boarding stay, you will be called to pick her up and make other arrangements, as it can create an unsafe environment for the rest of our guests due to higher arousal levels.

What vaccinations does my dog need to have?

All dogs must be up to date on Rabies, Distemper/Parvo, and Bordetella. Puppies must have received at least their first two rounds of shots.

Is someone on site overnight?

We do not have anyone stay overnight. Our secure building is alarmed and under surveillance 24/7. All dogs are closed inside protecting them from outside weather and noise. When we leave at night, it's usually very quiet as a long day of play has earned a good night's rest!

Do you have a cancellation policy?

We require 24 hour notice of cancellation for daycare and 48 hour notice for cancellation of overnight boarding. If the required notice is not given, there is an automatic 1 day charge. Due to the increased demand during the holidays, we require a 1-week cancellation notice, without which there will be a charge for the entire reservation.

What is your hurricane evacuation policy?

Due to limited staffing, we cannot evacuate dogs unless under extreme circumstances. During hurricane season, our guests MUST have an emergency evacuation contact should a mandatory evacuation arise. Please refer to our Hurricane Policy page for detailed information.
